Like most of you I had heard and read about the latest addition to the DJI line of drones, so recently I pulled the trigger and picked up the Mavic Mini.
I have been flying the Mavic Mini Drone now for about a month and it is an excellent drone, and a superb value. You will love this drone.

Does the Mavic Mini Drone Have Obstacle Avoidance Sensors?
The Mavic Mini does not have the same obstacle avoidance rich sensors as found on the Mavic 2 Pro or Zoom. Instead the Mavic Mini has two vision positioning sensors located on the bottom of the Drone. These sensors are great as they allow the drone to hover in place without GPS as needed when flying indoors.
Does The Mavic Mini Have GPS?
The Mavic Mini is equipped with a GPS Receiver which helps stabilize the craft and to insure your flight is smooth. The Mavic Mini is also equipped with the Return To Home feature (RTH) which leverages GPS and will return to the calibrated takeoff site location. This feature is handy when visual or other drone control is lost.
How Far Can A Mavic Mini Fly?
The DJI Mavic Mini has a Maximum Range of 4KM or about 2.5 Miles, and the battery can provide about ~30 minutes of flight time. Which is about the same flight time as the more expensive Mavic 2 Pro or Zoom drone batteries last.
Is the Mavic Mini Waterproof?
Caution The Mavic Mini is not a Submarine although many have tried to use it as an underwater camera. The DJI Mavic Mini is NOT Waterproof, also do not fly in the rain or fog. If you are a daredevil and will fly near or over water make sure you get the DJI Insurance. You will have to retrieve the drone in order to return it to DJI.

How High Does The Mavic Mini Fly?
This Mini Drone can reach up to 1600 feet vertically. No sky to high no fall too tall. Always prepare before you fly and make sure you have a Pre-Flight Checklist so you account for and insure you have a successful flight.
Can The Mavic Mini Fly Without WIFI?
Yes the Mavic Mini can be flown without WIFI or Cell Data. The DJI Drones have internal radio frequencies used to fly and transmit the video footage. Low Resolution Video footage is copied onto your smart phone and can be posted to social media, without downloading High Resolution footage from Micro SD Card.
How Fast Is The Mavic Mini?
The Mavic Mini is no Speedster or a Racing Drone but it can reach speeds of up to 8.7 MPH which should keep up with a moving target you follow such as a jogger, and slower moving vehicle.

Always top off your batteries, insure your firmware is up to date, and make sure you have a freshly formatted Micro SD Card. Insure your micro SD card is inserted so you don’t miss any of that awesome footage you want to capture.

How Much Does the Mavic Mini Weigh And Do I have to Register It With the FAA?
As the name suggests, the Mavic Mini is Very Small, Compact, and Travels well. It folds up like the bigger Mavic, and Mavic 2 drones.
Because of it’s small size it does not have to be registered with the FAA due to it being so lightweight and under 250 grams.
This Drone weighs 249g one gram shy of the FAA cut off for having to register the drone. This drone is ….CRAZY SMALL!!!

I have flown the Mavic Mini in a light to moderate wind and it did great.
The Mavic Mini is very stable for such a tiny drone even in the wind.
Extremely maneuverable, which is needed since you don’t have all the obstacle avoidance sensors the Mavic 2 drones offer.
